President al-Assad underlines importance of boosting Arab parliament work - 2008-08-24

DAMASCUS, (SANA)-President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday underlined the importance of the Arab Parliament work to activate the Arab joint action and find an Arab unified stance vis-à-vis issues encountering the Arab nation.

President al-Assad received Head of the Arab Transitional Parliament Jassem al-Saqr. Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest developments in the region and world.

Al-Saqr briefed President al-Assad about the works and activities of the Arab transitional parliament and preparations for the parliament's next elections.

He praised stances of President al-Assad towards Arab issues and his efforts to found the basis of the Arab Parliament.

Speaker of the people's Assembly Mahmoud al-Abrash attended the meeting.

"As head of the Arab transitional parliament, I presented to President al-Assad, in his capacity as president of the headquarter country, a report on the Arab parliament and its achievements in addition to its constitution and rules of procedures," al-Saqr said in a statement to reporters following the meeting.

He added talks during the meeting dealt with the latest regional and international developments.
