HATHEE HATHEE PARABAT TOLA(N)DE BA(N)DE
BY PEER SHAMSH
O momins: With the use of hands only, the ones who could weigh
huge mountains, and could fill the entire oceans in the fold of their palms;
such intrepid warriors have gone to dust. Then why do you entertain pride and vanity?
O negligent slave (created being), adore the Lord because this (transient) world will pass away.
O greedy and covetous one, adore the Lord because this world will pass away.
ejee aaj hotee kaal na hove ba(n)de, kaal hotee aaj-j ho
aa(n)kh firaakann na meele ba(n)de, muhme rahyo re geeroh....2
O momins: That which can be done today, should not be left for tomorrow
and that which is supposed to be done tomorrow should be done today.
A moment as short as a twinkle of an eye will not be given as grace to thee;
even a morsel shall remain in the mouth unchewed (at the time of death).
ejee jeen sa(n)g has has bolanne ba(n)de, ek ghaddee naa rahyo
khaa(n)dh utthaa kar gaadd de ba(n)de, ulatt paalatt bhayo...3
O momins: The ones with whom you had laughter filled conversations,
did not remain with you for one moment. They were carried on the shoulders
(in the funeral processions) and were finally buried. Their world was turned upside down.
ejee man maanedhaa taaraaraannee penate, galle nav kottee dhaa haar
kaashee nagaree me chovatte raajaa harischa(n)ddhre vechee naar..........4
O momins: Queen Taaraaraani wore an object that was very much dear to her heart.
It was a necklace worth 90 million units. However, the same queen was sold
in the shopping streets of Kashi by her husband, King harischanddhr
(as a test for his detachment of the world).
ejee gur geenaan boleeyaa daataa peer shamsh
yaa shaah jumlo la(n)gaai-e paar
dasond deeyo more momano, to utaro pahele paar...............5
O momins: This 'geenaan' (Divine knowledge) of the Guide is said by the
benevolent Peer Shamsh. O Lord! help all the jamaats to cross the limits
of this material existence. My true believers, submit the tithe,
then you will get across (this ocean of material existence).

Pir Shams
With sheer hands who could rend asunder the mountains
and could drink in one sip the waters of the sea? Such intrepid warriors have gone to dust.
What dost thou entertain pride for?
Refrain: O negligent slave (of God)! Adore God,
For thou shalt have to quit this transient world. ...1
That which is to take place today shall not be delayed
unto tomorrow but tomorrows shall happen today.
A time as short as a twinkle shall not be given as grace to thee; even a morcel shall remain in the mouth unchewed. ...2
With those whom you conversed smilingly, O slave of God!
He did not happen to survive for even a moment.
Carried on shoulders he was burried
and became topsyturvy. ...3
Queen Tararani wore a necklace worth nine crores, which she adored. This same Queen was sold in the Bazaar of Kashi (Benares) by her husband, King Harischandra. ...4
Benevolent Pir Shams, the preceptor, uttered the Ginan,
O Shah! Help all the Jamat to attain salvation. O momins!
Tender dasond to your Lord that you may get across
this world. ...5
